Great news for plant-based eaters, a new study has found that vegetarians have resistance to 5 types of cancer! Here are the 5 cancers vegetarians have a lower risk of developing: • Multiple myeloma (plasma cancer): 31% lower risk • Kidney cancer: 28% lower risk • Pancreatic cancer: 21% lower risk • Prostate cancer: 12% lower risk • Breast cancer: 9% lower risk However, the study found that some vegetarians/vegans had a higher risk of bowel cancer and throat cancer. Researchers point to deficiencies in riboflavin and zinc, as well as low calcium intake to be the culprit. • Riboflavin (B2): nutritional yeast, almonds, mushrooms, edamame, quinoa • Zinc: pumpkin seeds, lentils, chickpeas, cashews • Calcium: Fortified plant milks (soy, oat, almond), edamame, white beans, bok choy, kale, broccoli All in all, physicians recommend building a diet around wholegrains, pulses and plants while avoiding red and processed meats to protect your body from cancer. ⸻ Study: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41416-025-03327-4 Press: https://plantbasednews.org/lifestyle/health/vegetarians-lower-risk-of-cancer-study/
