The Slimy Superfood: Okra

Some people don't like okra because it is slimy. But did you know that this same slime is what makes it a superfood?

The slime contains mucilage, which:

  • Binds to water in the intestinal tract, adding bulk and easing diarrhea   • Coats the intestinal lining, reducing irritation and creating a protective barrier against further inflammation   • Feeds beneficial gut bacteria, supporting microbial balance that regulates digestion   • Absorbs excess bile acids in the colon, which ensures healthy stool   • Stabilizes blood sugar
