Lowers Alzheimer’s Risk

A study found that women who had 20% lower Omega-3 levels in the body were at a higher risk of Alzheimer’s. 

The researchers also found that women with Alzheimer’s had higher levels of saturated fats. It’s been hypothesized that these saturated fats prevent the healthy Omega-3 fats from reaching the brain.

Key Benefits of Omega-3

Omega-3 has been proven to help with brain and heart functions. Among its benefits are lowered depression and improved mood, as well as improved eyesight. 

Omega-3 also lowers the risk for heart disease, metabolic disorders, skin disorders and has anti-inflammatory properties. 

Omega-3 has also been shown in studies to reduce the risk during the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.

Additionally, Omega-3 has the potential to reduce fat buildup in the liver. Fatty liver disease (MASLD) happens when too much fat accumulates in the liver, and can lead to breakdown of the liver or other cancers.

Plant Foods Rich In Omega-3

When following a plant-based diet, it can be tricky to get your recommended sources of Omega-3s. Omega-3s are commonly found in fish, and opting out of eating fish reduces your natural sources of Omega-3s. But it is not impossible to find good sources, here are a few below:

  • Flaxseeds

  • Chia seeds

  • Walnuts

  • Edamame

  • Soybeans

  • Kidney beans

  • Seaweed
